Dealing with an illness can be quite stressful. Patients and staff at Coffey County Hospital can rest assured that their spiritual needs will be met through the Coffey County Hospital Volunteer Chaplain Program. The volunteer chaplain ministry serves people according to their own needs and individual faith to achieve wholeness of mind and body.
The volunteer chaplain program consists of ministers from throughout the area who provide chaplain services on a rotating weekly basis. During their assigned week, these men and women come to the hospital to visit patients, and are on-call for emergencies. If a patient requests to speak to a pastor, but doesn’t have a personal preference, hospital staff will contact the on-call chaplain. Staff will need to explain to the chaplain that the patient is requesting some spiritual care and does not have a denominational preference. If a patient requests to speak to their personal pastor, nursing staff will contact him or her directly.
Several of these ministers also make it a point to visit patients even when it is not their on-call week, and we are grateful for their commitment to our patients and families.
Thirteen area chaplains attended a recent breakfast at the hospital, after which they held their monthly Ministerial Alliance meeting. Many ideas were shared along with fellowship.
The on-call chaplains are a great resource, especially in the emergency department. ED staff can contact the on-call chaplain to come in if they believe it would be beneficial to the patient. This program is offered as part of the healing teamwork of the total hospital program.
If you see a chaplain, please be sure to let them know that they are very much appreciated!
We are always looking for new chaplains to join us!
