Cindy Miller from the Alzheimer’s Association in Topeka returns to CHS by popular request.  Cindy gives a unique insight into the physical and emotional toll of dementia and Alzheimer’s.  The event is highly recommended for anyone whose life is touched by dementia.

A participant at Miller’s first presentation at Coffey County Hospital in 2007, wrote “I thought I had a good understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s after seeing it in my own family; however, as I listened to Cindy, I could immediately begin to see a bigger picture.  When she spoke about what patients go through, how they feel at various stages, and how their fears and emotions are reflected in their behaviors, she could have been talking about my family.  The presentation helped me to step back and see the progression of the disease:  where we’d been, how far it had progressed, as well as what to expect in the coming years.  Her presentation had a profound influence on my ability to cope with a very difficult situation.”

This event is the first in a new series of public service activities provided by Coffey Health System.  Expanding upon the success of the bi-monthly Lunch & Learn series, evening educational sessions will be offered to reach out to working adults.  The new “Live & Learn” events will be held in January, March, May, July, September, and November.  Meals will not be served, but light refreshments will be available.
