In today’s world, anyone can fall victim to a scam. With advancements in technology, you really don’t know who is on the other end of a phone call or email—even if you see a familiar name, face, or logo. Fraudsters often impersonate government officials, banks, or businesses to steal money or personal information. Other top threats include phishing, investment fraud (including crypto), online shopping fraud, and romance scams. Scammers often rely on urgency—fake tech support, prize notifications, or urgent, unpaid debts—to get people to act before better judgment kicks in.
“These scams pose a threat to people of all ages, with damages going beyond financial loss. The emotional and psychological damage can be devastating,” said CHS Director of Marketing Tracy Jones. “If you own a cell phone or a computer, this event is for you. Chief Roney’s examples and advice will hit home whether you are a retiree, an adult with loved ones who might be easy prey to scammers, or the parent of kids who are entrenched in the online world.
